Review in English
The person we are today its a sum of all the things our pass contains. One of the most important ones is the education given to us by our parents, they built the foundations of what we are today. For Clarissa, good manners and passivity in the face of less correct actions of others are the cornerstone of the good education her parents gave her but when she becomes the target of unwanted attention by someone who does not know how to listen, her education and the shame she feels just make her a easier target to reach.
" Bizarrely Freak " (bizarramente arrepiante), an expression that appears in the book and is also a thought that is conveyed by Clarissa and that you can identify in many of the moments that are experienced in "Diário de uma obsessão/The book of you" .
The theme of the book always gave me goosebumps but while i was reading , I found myself talking to people around me who brought me stories in which they were targets. I'm talking persecution, obsession and total disregard for the desire not to have any connection with the other person . Fortunately , these stories are simple and innocent when compared with Clarissa's .
When we meet her we know that the drama is already in motion . Clarissa , either in the present, the journal parts or in remembrance of past time moments, is a woman who has no peace, not even when she's alone . Rafe's looming presence is already installed on her day to day life and it's almost impossible to escape his grip. He is everywhere , under the most varied forms and worst of all, he appears constantly in Clarissa's thoughts to torment her since , by chance and Rafe's fault, they ended up having an intimate moment , induced by drugs .
That one time was enough for her to realize, even though she remembered very little, that distance is the only thing she wants from Rafe. For him, that night was the beginning, the first step towards the obsessive path that leads constantly to Clarissa .
I like to refer to a sentence mentioned at certain point in the book "a night of consensual sex in the past, regardless of its nature , does not make it your fault , nor gives him the right to behave as he has behaved since then . "
But my question is ... how do you fight someone who does not take no for an answer?
How to present a case to the police when there is no crime committed ? Do we need to be in a life-threatening situation to have a credible case? Does the fact that she slept with him once can be interpreted as a point in favor of his side of the story?
Will this one night discredit Clarissa and even mark her as an unstable person ?
Will Clarissa survive Rafe ? Is there an enchanted prince out there ready to save her ? Or are the men in her life all frogs?
The allusion to poetry and classical tales is intense and leaves us to wonder whether we would find appropriate and innocent many of fairy tales that seemed harmless when we were kids . With every new day i tend to agree more and more with Elsa from Frozen " You can not marry someone you just met ." Fairy tales also have dishonest and malicious characters that their sole purpose is to make the lovely main character's life a living hell.
In "Diário de uma obsessão/The book of you" our main character is being pursued by the demented Ogre. Will she find salvation in a top of a tall isolated tower or in knight in shining armor ?
A thriller with a fantastic dose of panic moments and other with the ability to raise every hair in the back of your neck , especially to female readers . I challenge you to put yourself in Clarissa's place. I really don't dare! Ask all the saints for protection because just thinking about it gives me the creeps
